 Pop singer Chappell Roan, despite appearing to have risen to fame overnight for some, shared a different story during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on June 20. She reminisced about her days working at a doughnut shop with little money, contrasting that with a photo of herself alone at a keyboard on a small stage.

Roan's debut on The Tonight Show followed a successful performance at the June Governor's Ball, where she drew a large crowd. Following a humorous interview with Fallon, she treated the audience to a vibrant rendition of her latest single, "Good Luck, Babe!" adorned in fantastical feathers. When asked about her rapid ascent to pop stardom, Roan quipped, "It feels like I was right all along. I mean, feeling like I'd already 'made it' when people showed up to my concert a few years ago. It was like, 'people came?!' Everything since then has just been the cherry on top."Chappell Roan shared with Jimmy Fallon the backstory behind her statement at Coachella that resonated deeply with fans. Fallon recalled her saying, "'I'm Chappell Roan, and I'm your favorite artists' favorite artist.'"

Roan clarified, attributing the inspiration to Sasha Colby, a celebrated drag star known for the phrase, "'I'm your favorite drag queens' favorite drag queen.'" The audience cheered, prompting Roan to humorously add, "there's gay people here."

Reflecting on the impact of Colby's influence, Roan told Fallon, "It just hit me through the heart. And so I was like, 'I hope Sasha Colby one day watches me, and that's why I said it.'" 

Roan's wish came true as Colby later shared the Tonight Show clip on her Instagram stories.
