Khyree Jackson, a former cornerback from Oregon, tragically died in a car accident in Maryland.

Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson died in a car accident early Saturday morning in Maryland, according to authorities and the team.

Jackson, 24, was one of three individuals killed in a three-car collision overnight in Prince George’s County, Maryland State Police reported.

The Vikings issued a statement expressing their profound sorrow, having spoken with Jackson's family. General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said, "I am devastated by the loss of Khyree. Throughout the pre-draft process, we admired his ambitions both on and off the field. His journey was one of resilience, striving not only for personal success but also to inspire those around him."

Jackson, drafted in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, played two seasons at Alabama before concluding his college career with Oregon. He started as a cornerback during his time with the Ducks.

Oregon head football coach Dan Lanning paid tribute to Jackson on social media: "I will miss your smile. Great player, even better person."

Jackson had been competing for a starting cornerback position at the Vikings' upcoming training camp in Eagan, Minnesota.

Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell added, "I am speechless. My thoughts are with Khyree’s family, friends, teammates, and coaches."

Police reported that Jackson died at the crash site. The other victims were identified as Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton, Jr., 24.

Hazel had played college football at Maryland and Charlotte, while Lytton had played at Florida State and Penn State. The three had won state championships together at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School in Maryland, according to On3.com.

All three were in the same vehicle during the accident. Hazel was driving, with Jackson and Lytton as passengers, authorities said.

Investigators indicated that the driver of a second northbound vehicle allegedly attempted an unsafe lane change at high speed, resulting in the collision with Hazel's car and a third vehicle.

No injuries were reported in the second and third vehicles.

Authorities stated that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, and potential charges are pending following further investigation and consultation with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office....Read More
