Donald Sutherland, the esteemed actor known for his roles in 'MAS*H' and 'The Hunger Games,' passes away at the age of 88.


 Donald Sutherland, the influential actor who adorned screens in film and television for numerous decades, passed away at the age of 88, as announced by his son on Thursday.


Kiefer Sutherland shared the news on social media, honoring his father as "one of the most significant actors in the history of film."


"Never intimidated by any role, whether good, bad, or ugly," he wrote. "He cherished his craft and pursued it with passion. A life fully embraced."

The Creative Artists Agency confirmed the passing of their client, Donald Sutherland, in Miami, Florida, after a prolonged illness.


Born in Canada, Donald Sutherland gained prominence during the late 1960s and early '70s with standout roles in films like "The Dirty Dozen" and "M*A*S*H." His portrayal of surgeon Hawkeye Pierce in Robert Altman's 1970 film "M*A*S*H" solidified his early career success.


Throughout the 1970s, Sutherland established himself as a versatile leading actor, starring opposite Jane Fonda in "Klute," appearing in the influential horror thriller "Don't Look Now," and featuring prominently in the 1978 version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers."


His career spanned multiple genres, from dramas like "JFK" and "Backdraft" to comedies such as "Animal House" and "Fool's Gold." In recent years, he portrayed President Coriolanus Snow in "The Hunger Games" series and delivered a heartfelt performance as a father in "Pride & Prejudice" (2005).


Beyond film, Sutherland excelled in television, winning an Emmy for HBO's "Citizen X" and appearing in series like "Lawmen: Bass Reeves" and "Commander in Chief."
